Norman Adams RA (1927 - 2005) was one of the leading British religious painters of the 20th Century. Studying at Harrow School of Art from the age of thirteen, he won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art which he took up in 1948.
Adams held senior teaching posts at Manchester and Newcastle before becoming keeper of the Royal Academy Schools in 1986, and subsequently professor of painting from 1995 to 2000. Adams' work is represented in diverse collections, some of which include: the Arts Council Collection; the Royal College of Art; The Hepworth Wakefield; York Museums Trust; Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery; Leeds Museums and Galleries; the University of Leeds Art Collection and Gallery; Leicester Arts and Museums Service; Lakeland Arts Trust.
